Central Térmica Roca
General Roca, Río Negro · 190 MW installed
The Roca Thermal Power Plant is located in General Roca, province of Río Negro. It has an installed capacity of 190 MW, consisting of a 130 MW gas turbine and a 60 MW steam turbine, both by General Electric.
Grupo Albanesi acquired the plant in 2011, when it was out of service due to a serious failure in the 130 MW gas turbine that also affected the generator.
The first recovery works consisted of repairing the affected equipment and replacing the rotor. In a second stage, a liquid fuel system was implemented, allowing the use of diesel as an alternative fuel.
Commercial operation of the plant in open cycle with the gas turbine began in June 2012. The following year, in July 2013, the plant became able to operate with both natural gas and diesel.
In 2016 work began to close the plant's combined cycle, with the installation of a boiler and a steam turbine, increasing power generation efficiency and expanding installed capacity by an additional 60 MW.
The plant began operating as a combined cycle in August 2018, bringing its installed capacity to the current 190 MW.
