Central Térmica Modesto Maranzana

The Modesto Maranzana Thermal Power Plant is located in Río Cuarto, province of Córdoba. It has an installed capacity of 475 MW, making it Grupo Albanesi's largest plant in the country. In December 2024 the plant's expansion and combined cycle closing project was completed, with an investment of over USD 190 million, adding 125 MW of installed capacity through the incorporation of two turbines, one gas and one steam.

The plant, connected to the Argentine Interconnected System (SADI) through the high-voltage network of the Provincial Energy Company of Córdoba (EPEC), produces 25% of the electric power demanded by the province of Córdoba.

Originally, Maranzana had a 70 MW combined cycle in operation, in two 35 MW blocks, each consisting of a Frame 5 gas turbine, a generator and a steam turbine in a single-shaft arrangement.

In October 2008 the first stage of the expansion project was completed with the installation and commissioning of two new Pratt & Whitney Power Systems SwiftPac 60, FT8-3 gas turbines. Each unit consists of two 30 MW aeroderivative gas turbines arranged so that both transmit their power to a single generator, providing great operational flexibility.

In 2010 a third 60 MW Pratt & Whitney SwiftPac 60, FT8-3 turbine was installed and began commercial operation in September of that year, bringing the plant's installed capacity to 250 MW.

Continuing its expansion, in 2016 work began on the installation of two Siemens SGT-800 turbines of 50 MW nominal capacity each. They began operating in July 2017, bringing the plant's total installed capacity to 350 MW, with an investment of 85 million dollars.

The plant has successively implemented and obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications. With the latter, obtained in 2007, the company achieved its Integrated Management System.
